905 Dry Suit
Expensive features such as add-on hiking boots and convoluted torsos are nice -- so long as you do not lose sight of the fact a dry suit's most important function is to keep you dry . And a dry suit's ability to do so is largely dependent on the material it's made from and how it's put together. As the illustrations below show, this is where Dive Rite's affordable 905 dry suit excels.
Conventional Shell Suit
??Many dry suits are made from urethane-coated nylon. It's important to
understand that the core material in these suits is not waterproof, and will
not keep water out if the urethane coating delaminates.
??Sewn seams mean the suit material has been punctured thousands of times, completely destroying its waterproof integrity before the suit is even finished.
??Only by running a bead of sealant or tape can the damage caused by sewing be repaired (and this repair will last only as long as the sealant or tape adheres to the material).

Dive Rite's 905 shell is made from butyl rubber -- a core material that is, by itself, inherently waterproof. This is laminated with layers of polyester that add additional puncture and abrasion resistance, and the ability to stretch along with the core material.
Shell seams are ultrasonically welded, making the shell one solid piece of butyl rubber, and creating a seam stronger than the shell itself (no weak links here!)
