Congratulations on choosing to become an Assistant Instructor (AI) and/or the PADI Open Water Instructor. Achieving this goal will provide you with many years of rewarding experiences and the opportunity to earn a living in an area that many people consider a hobby.
The PADI Instructor Development Course teaches you how to teach the PADI system of continuing education in the Classroom, Confined Water (Pool), and Open Water (OW). During our training program, you will learn how to plan and organize all of the PADI training materials and sessions in order to become a successful instructor.
As with all PADI programs, the IDC is performance based. The actual time required to complete an IDC is based on logistical considerations, candidate ability and the number of candidates in the course. However, as a minimum, the IDC must be conducted over at least seven days. Your level of success will be determined by the amount of dedication and training that you invest prior to the Instructor Development Course (IDC) begins. PADI requires a minimum of 7 days to complete the IDC. A candidate can approximate a total of 65 hours broken down into 45 hours of Classroom instruction, 10 hours of Confined Water instruction and 10 hours of Open Water instruction. Attendance at all Classroom, Confined Water and Open Water sessions is required for successful completion of the course. We wish you the best of luck with your Instructor Development.
