Stewart Tanner
PADI Master Instructor & Rebreather Instructor

Biography

First certified in 1987, Stewart had never really given much thought about becoming a dive professional. Tiring of the post-production world as a film editor Stewart began to look for something more fulfilling. Shortly after his honeymoon he realized that diving was his true passion. Over the last several years “Scuba Stew” went from a recreational diver to PADI Instructor and has risen up through the PADI ranks to become a PADI Master Instructor, holding over 20 Specialty Instructor ratings from both PADI and SDI. He is a TDI Tech 2 Diver and TDI Intro to Tech Instructor as well as a PADI Tec Rec Trimix Blender Instructor. Scuba Stew also is a member of SAG and has done water safety for numerous television shows and features.

When he’s not diving or teaching diving you can find Scuba Stew on one of his Stand Up Paddle Board all over Southern California or at Ocean Adventures helping new divers with questions about gear or dive travel. One of Scuba Stew’s greatest joys is seeing a student have an encounter with a Seal Lion or Giant Black Seabass for the first time. The look they have in their eyes lets him know the get and will be hooked on SCUBA for life. Favorite Dive Spot: Any ship wreck or night dive.

What students have said: " The shining star was clearly our instructor Stew! He not only was fun to be around but was also extremely helpful in alleviating all anxieties I had being underwater for the first time. I couldn't have asked for a better experience!"
