| OCEAN DEFENDERS TONIGHT ON "SOCAL CONNECTED" ON KCET |
 |
|
Just in case you didn't come to our last club meeting
our speaker for Sheep Shepherd is also the founder
of Ocean Defenders Alliance, what they do is go out
and remove old fishing nets off of wrecks and reefs off
the California Coast.
Ocean Defenders Alliance (ODA)
is a nonprofit grassroots marine conservation
organization founded and based in Orange County,
California, since 2002. ODA strives to make our
coastal waters safer for ocean wildlife by removing
dangerous man-made objects from the sea floor,
especially abandoned commercial fishing gear that
poses a serious threat to numerous species. ODA
carefully liberates animals found trapped in derelict
gear that needlessly continues to capture and kill.
Ocean Adventures Dive Co. supports ODA, and our
Tech Divers are helping the group to remove netting
from the deeper wrecks and sites.

| XCEL INTRODUCES ECO WETSUITS MADE FROM RECYCLED BAMBOO |
 |
|
XCel's new Bamboo Ultrastretch series is a
comfortable, durable, warm yet lightweight wetsuit
line - and it's also better for the environment than
traditional wetsuits.
The core of the neoprene is XCel's traditional
limestone-based neoprene (produced with
hydroelectric power), layered with bamboo charcoal-
infused yarns plus recycled polyester from soda
bottles. The benefit for you is the increased comfort
and performance: 4-way stretch, moisture- and odor-
resistance, compression resistance, and increased
retention of body heat in cooler water.
The ThermoBarrier is a hybrid cold-water scuba diving
wetsuit - wear it with the vented hood attached for
ultimate warmth, or remove the hood to wear in more
temperate water.
Classic back zipper design is easier for women to put
on or take off than suits with a cross-chest front zipper.
Adjustable wrap collar for comfort
Bamboo-infused water-resistant Dual Level
ThermoBarrier lining made from recycled materials;
upper body in high pile for core warmth, with lower
body and sleeves in lower pile for stretch performance
Easy on & off ankle zipper system with inner ankle
dams.
Quadruple glued and blindstitched seams with
reinforced stress points means this suit will last in
tough diving conditions with 8mm body, 7mm sleeves,
6mm hood with 5mm GlideSkin face seal, 5mm outer
lower legs and inner spine puts the warmth where you
need it, and flexibilty to keep you moving comfortably
underwater.
Ocean Adventures has these new eco suits IN STOCK
now! Check them out for yourself next time you stop
by the shop.

| OADC NOW CARRIES STAHLSAC TRAVEL BAGS |
 |
|
2009 marks 31 years the Stahl family has
manufactured travel luggage. The Stahl's roots as a
manufacturer began in 1978, when There founder,
Emil Stahl, answered a need to find a better way to
make luggage. His skill and innovative manufacturing
methods earned the trust of many early company's in
the outdoor industry.
The attention to detail on every level allowed them to
put their special touch on products manufactured
under private labels from company's ranging from L.L.
Bean daypacks, Patagonia soft luggage and
briefcases for Tumi.
While all of the private label work was progressing, a
personal passion of John and Jim Stahl evolved into
the Stahlsac Submariner line of adventure diving
luggage. A complete line of quality travel products
designed around and for the ocean environment has
placed them in the unique position of offering totally
unique products made of exceptional quality
standards. There are few sports in the world that
demand so much from the equipment used. Salt
spray, intense U/V rays, luggage designed to transport
life support equipment to remote locations around the
world and airport baggage handlers! The
Stahls are so good at what they do, they offer the
highest standard guarantee in any industry...a lifetime

FRANK OF FRANKO'S MAPS TO SPEAK AT DIVE CLUB MEETING TUESDAY JUNE 9 |
|
|
Join us Tuesday, June 9, at Ocean Adventures to meet
Frank Nielsen of Franko Maps. Frank will be talking
about how he designs the dive maps we all use to
explore the many Southern California Dive Sites. The
meeting begins at 7pm, feel free to bring your own
Franko maps to be signed by the man himself!
A Franko map is a guidebook or a trip planner on one
page. Franko Maps are colorful and bright. They are
printed on durable waterproof synthetic paper using
fade-resistant inks. The detail of every Franko Map
incorporates a love and respect for each location, its
natural environment and its history. Franko Maps
provide a wealth of information including what to see
and do, dive sites, surfing spots, trails, historical sites,
scenery, cultural facts, activities and attractions.
Franko Map backgrounds (island outlines, hill and
mountain shaded relief, ocean bathymetry, etc.) are
visually beautiful. Franko Map foregrounds (roads,
trails, place names, descriptions, etc.) are clear,
beautiful and continuously updated. Franko Maps are
improved and updated with each subsequent edition.
Franko Maps began in Southern California's
mountains then the coast and
islands off of California. Franko expanded his
mapping skills to include Hawaii, the Caribbean,
Micronesia, and Florida.
